The Offline Gamer

long time no see :)

hey guys its been quite some time since I have had a chance to upload to the blog.  Sorry about that, well at least I got a chance to play more recently and can finally update my blog :)  at the start of the week my wife and I got a chance to get in a game of archipelago in and had a great time.  It was her first time playing and I didn’t know how she would like it.  Turns out she had a really good time and looks forward to playing it again, hmmm maybe tonight hehe.  anyways here is a pic of us playin

The other night I was able to get together with my gaming bud and we played a round of cthulu gloom and castles of burgundy. We had a blast playing gloom as well as castles and I had a pretty good score by the end of gloom.  I ended up scoring an amazing 205 points on my family.  here are some pics.

here is some pics of the game itself.

here is the result of my poor family at the end of the game.  I thought regular gloom was fun and got the cthulu gloom because I thought my wife would like it better and she really does like it.  Now onto the game of castles.  I tried board 2 while my gaming bud played board 5 and boy what a beating I took.  It was soo bad that I had to groan out i’ll never use board 2 again hehe.  here are some pics

this pic was at mid game and yes I was black and that far behind :(by the end I just broke 100 points while my gaming buddy almost made 200.  Well guys that is all for this gaming post hope you guys have been well, and as always go out there and play some games will ya. :)

Happy international tabletop day

Hey everyone sorry i haven’t updated in a bit but I have been super busy with work and all.  first off let me say a happy Tabletop day to all, I know, I know i’m a day late but I was busy hehe.  I managed to go to my local game shop and wanted to stick around to play some but due to me having to go to work I couldn’t stick around.  I ended up picking up a copy of cthulu gloom along with the tabletop gloom promo cards and was looking forward to playing it with my wife last night.  When I opened up my copy of gloom and started to go through the cards I came to a horrid realization.  I had two copies of the same deck instead of the two separate decks that I needed to play the game :(  I was sooo bummed out.  Oh well I shall see if the game shop I bought the game from has another copy of the game if not I sent an email to atlas games to see if I can get the other deck sent out to me. Looks like I’m gonna have to wait a few days to be able to play my new game of gloom :(

Another gaming session

Hey guys sorry I haven’t had a chance to update the blog.  Well I luckily got a chance to play some games with my gaming buddy not too long ago and we had a good time.  We decided to play survive as well as another go at seasons

here is a shot of survive. Now mind you this game is a reprint of a very old game.  Whats pretty cool is my gaming buddy actually used to have the original game when he was a kid. It was a pretty fun game to play and we got through the whole thing in about 30 to 45 min

here is a picture of our game of seasons which I am really starting to really like.  That night we played using the advanced cards and it definitely has some interesting ones to throw at ya.  I can easily see them coming out with multiple expansions to this game and it will be pretty cool for it.

and here was the final tally for our game unfortunately I lost 97 to 137 :( oh well hopefully I will get to play it again sometime soon.  Take care guys

A Season of change :)

So the other night I was able to get together with my gaming buddy and we broke out a game that I had wanted to see as it got allot of buzz at gencon last year.  The game is seasons.  I was looking forward to playing this as all the reviews I have seen and all the talk about the game was really really positive.  I have to say after playing two games I agree that it is totally great.  The game itself plays allot like magic the gathering however instead of using cards to cast your spells you are rolling dice.  The game is relatively easy to pick up and play and we had a blast playing it.

here we were midway through our second game.  Good thing I remembered to take pictures :)

this was a great game and I am looking forward to picking it up one day.  To show you guys how close our game came down to here is a picture of the final scoring board

yep that is me in orange and I only lost by 2 points. I couldn’t believe I lost by only 2 but then again we had a blast playing it so I didn’t mind.  I would recommend you guys to give this game a shot as we had a blast playing it.  Until next time guys remember go out and play some games with your friends!

A ton of fun

so last night I was able to get together with my gaming buddy for another fun gaming night.  I couldn’t wait to get together as he had ordered a bunch of new games and they had arrived.  Most of the games he had ordered I was definitely interested in seeing as they were on my list of potential buys.  We started the night off with a classic game called dungeon.  Dungeon is a reprint of a game that came out in the 70’s, that’s right a game that is 40 years old.  It was a great warm up game and I had fun playing it.

Here is the game at the start of it all

and here is a shot of the game a little bit more progressed.  It was really fun and by what my gaming buddy said, who actually owned the original as a kid, they did a good job with the reprinting.

Now onto our second game of the night and one that was on my possible buy list since I saw it from the gencon previews of last year, Smash up!  The game is kind of like a simplified version of dominion but way fun since you make your deck of two different factions. Our first game I tried out the zombies and pirates while my gaming buddy tried out the dinosaurs and ninjas.  It was a fun game but in the end I lost by a few points.  for our second game he tried the wizards and tricksters and I tried the robots and aliens.  For our second game I earned a victory and had a blast playing it.

Here is our first game in progress

and our second game.  All in all I had a great time playing these games.  For our next gaming session we plan on playing another game on my should I buy list that he got by the name of seasons.  I can’t wait to try that one out as I hear some great things about it.  Till next time, and always remember grab some friends and play some games will ya!

Gaming session #2

Well as I said in my Zombicide post I was able to get together again last night with my gaming buddy and we played a game that we both hadn’t had a chance to play but sounded really intersting.  The game was archipelago.  What an interesting game it was.  I agree with some of the reviews I have seen about the game that on your first play through you will get frustrated a bit, not understand what is going on, and have that sense of hmm maybe this game is not for me.  After a few rounds of play everything started to click and the game turned out to be a really really good game.  What I liked about the game is the fact that you are playing this game and everyone playing has a victory condition however you only know what one of the victory conditions are as you are all dealt them out in cards at the start of the game.  We had such a great time and I was able to squeek out a victory of 14 to 13.  Tonight we will be getting together again to play but we may either be playing seasons and sentinals of the multiverse or another go at archipelago again.  Well let me post some pics so you guys can see what the game looks like

this was us getting ready to set up the begining of the game

and here we were one turn into the game as you can see the game starts our with one blue ocean tile and you then get to initially explore and start adding more hex tiles to the board.

as you go exploring more and more hex tiles come out and you can see in the top left are the local markets as well as foreign markets.

here you can see the final scoring of the game where i barely won it :) the cards on top of the track are evolution cards that you can buy to gain access to special abilities that you can do during your action phase.

here is what our island looked like when the game ended, as you can see the 3 little square tiles placed on the hexes are ports and since there were 3 of them I had a card that triggering the end of the game was when 3 of them got built.

here is what the market looked like at the end of the game, the circle on the bottom is where you place your action discs to do certain things during your action phase, The counter on the lower left is population and rebel tracker.

here is a better shot of the points counter at the end of the game.

All in all I say that this game is very interesting as it has a semi co-op feel to it in that you cannot let the number of rebels exceed the number of people.  I really had fun playing this and I look forward to playing it again. Until next time guys go out and play some games with your friends!!!

Sorry I haven’t uploaded any new gaming stuff but it has been really busy lately.  Well either way a few nights ago I was able to get together with my gaming buddy who was in town and we played a round of Zombicide.  Let me tell you guys this game is quickly becoming one of my favorite co-op games to play as it really makes you work together to reach a common goal.  As you can see by the pics we had our work cut out for us as it quickly started to get out of control.  In one pic you can actually see how many zombies we had on one tile at one time, good thing no one was on that one as well.  With all hope winding down we got lucky enough to be able to get the last objective token and we only lost 3 survivors in the mix.  Once again I cant recommend this game enough and who knows maybe ill give a shot to actually writing a review about the game on this blog.  Well let me get to writing about last nights gaming fun and you guys will see that I was finally able to get in some more gaming sessions.  Till next time go out and play some games!!!

Fun Game night with the wife :)

so tonight the wife and I got together to play a game which we hadn’t played in a long time.  We played one of our favorites stone age with the expansion pack

here was the game early on where we were just starting out

here we were a bit into our game. it was a pretty tense game and she was ahead of me at this point

here was my home camp pretty early.  In the end I ended up beating her 325 to 265, but fun was had by all.  Tomorrow I should be getting together with my gaming buddy and play some zombicide and probably get together with my wife to play some power grid as a warm up :)  till then go out and play some games guys.

Time to play

Well last night the wifey and I broke out the zombicide and played.  Man what a fun game, it definitely makes you have the feeling of impending doom.  I cant wait to play this again!!!

BTW if you guys do own this game and have an ipad I definitely suggest downloading the zombicide app which helps you play the game.  Here is a pic of it in action
